Old Glossop Farm Produce - Wild Boar Bacon, Traditional Old Breed Pig Sausages & Gammon & Highland Cattle Meat

Old Glossop Farm Produce has been rearing wild boar, traditional old British breed pigs and highland cattle since 2003. In that time we have gradually grown on our farm a herd of over 500 wild boar and old breed pigs, 70 highland cattle plus wild ducks and pheasant. Our animals are content in their surroundings as they are allowed to roam free in our fields from March to October. This is not our shop, but the premises where the sausages, etc are produced. We do not wish to mislead our website visitors into thinking this is our shop.

Old Glossop Farm Produce provides meat of real quality and flavour as the animals live in a completely different setting to commercially farmed animals, which do not have the chance to live in a farm environment and are not able to wander freely around the fields. Wild Boar Rearing

During the winter, our wild boar and pigs are housed in large sheds (100 ft x 70 ft) with their family groups. We create an outdoor environment by placing 20 tons of soil at one end of the barn and silage and straw at the other end. This lets our wild boar and pigs nest for winter, as they would do in the wild. This promotes a happier, healthier wild boar and pig. Our hardy Highland cattle and poultry continue to live out in the fields throughout the seasons. See Our Animals page for more details on our wild boar and old breed pigs and highland cattle.

Changes in regulation in the United Kingdom has stimulated a growing awareness of the benefits of considerate husbandry and so now pigs are increasingly reared outdoors. We do not ‘process’ our animals to achieve the desired weight for slaughter, rather we allow them to wander the fields and moors around the farm, grazing, growing and maturing naturally. Our wild boar and pigs thrive on our farm, reaching the desired maturity and weight in a totally stress free manner – better for the animals and a much healthier meat is produced.
